Future Directions
Future Directions Community Liaison Group
In collaboration with local Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander community members, Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) established the Future Directions Community Liaison Group (FDCLG) in 2008.
The group:
-
acts as an advisory group to GPC to help ensure the maintenance of strong relationships between GPC and the Gladstone Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander communities
-
is a strong advocate for both the port and the Gladstone Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander community, to help ensure that the right information is conveyed to all parties and a mutual understanding is promoted and maintained
-
makes recommendations to GPC to ensure informed decisions are made based on the community consultation and that appropriate consideration is given to Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander issues.
Meeting quarterly, the group focuses on developing career pathways for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander youth, resolving issues of concern, considering the impact of port growth, and raising cultural awareness through training for current and future employees.
Through this partnership, many great initiatives have been developed and implemented, including our Reconciliation Action Plan.
